Trend : Bright & Bold Velvet Sofas

Green chesterfield velvet sofas by Darlings of Chelsea

Today, I’m talking a little bit about predicting trends. Interior trends, like the trends we see in fashion, come and go. They are cyclical in nature but they are not always easy to predict. Now I think I’m pretty good at predicting upcoming trends. Some trends, known as macro trends, really explode onto the scene in a big way and create large-scale, sustained shifts in consumer interest. Other trends, known as micro trends, remain quite small and tend to change the behaviour in the short-term. Then, of course, there are fads which come fast but tend to fade away quickly too. When you are immersed in an industry as much as I am, it tends to be quite easy to spot patterns arising.

Suddenly you see lots of plants featuring in interior shoots, then you see lots of botanical artwork popping up, then fabric, then wallcoverings, then you spot ceramics that are covered in cactus prints or shaped like cacti, then candles appear that look like succulents and then before you know it you’re in the middle of a full blown botanical trend that is absolutely everywhere and hard to avoid. Trends take quite a while to go mainstream though. They often start at a really high-end level and then slowly filter down to the highstreet and this can take months or even years. So if you’re in the know, trends are easy to spot. But sometimes, they can appear out of nowhere and totally take you by surprise. And that is exactly what happened to me with velvet!

My Mini Livingroom Makeover

Livingroom before Habitat KOTA 2 Seater Sofa Bed

I am so excited to share today’s post with you guys! Just after Christmas my husband and I decided that it was time to do a mini livingroom makeover. I say mini makeover as it was actually the first room we tackled when we moved in back in 2013 so it didn’t need much doing to it in all honesty. We were pretty happy with it, but I’ve always felt it wasn’t quite finished. We choose to paint the walls in a beautiful shade of dark green (Dulux Moss Blanket) but I was a bit apprehensive about painting all four walls in such a dark colour as it’s quite a small room and I’d only ever lived in magnolia homes before. So we opted to paint two walls green and leave two magnolia. Then in 2015, in celebration of National Wallpaper Week, we teamed up with Graham & Brown* for a decorating project whereby we used their beautiful Honolulu Palm wallpaper by Julien Macdonald* to cover one of the magnolia walls. This left us with one Magnolia wall, as you can see in the before picture above. We also had three massive canvasses hanging on this wall which we had brought with us from our previous, much bigger, home. They were too big for the space and I wanted to replace them with something more fitting. The new year provided us with the perfect excuse to make those little changes to our livingroom that we felt were really rather overdue. Read More…

Introducing The Lounge Co

Holly Blue corner sofa from The Lounge CoHolly Chaise End in House Cotton Linen – Peacock Tail

As I have gotten older and become a homeowner I have discovered two things that tell me I am now officially a grown up. And that is that it is worth spending more money on your sofa and your mattress. After all, we spend so many hours sleeping that a good quality mattress is worth its weight in gold. And the same goes for the sofa as it is often the place where we spend a fair amount of our free time relaxing and chilling out with friends and family. At least it is in our house. Having two tiny kids, I have to admit that I don’t have a great deal of time for lounging around, much to my dismay, but when I do find the odd few hours of an evening I expect my sofa to be a place of sanctuary that will help me unwind and enjoy the child free time. But choosing a sofa is never that easy, especially with all the choice that is available today. There’s all the different sizes, hundreds of different styles and thousands of fabrics to choose from. It can become a bit overwhelming. And that is why today I want to introduce you to The Lounge Co., a new player that has just entered the furniture market and that may be able to help make that decision a little easier.

Fun & Games with Team GB in Rio

The Britannia Accent Chair by DFS the official homeware partner for Team GB at Rio 2016

This is probably a really stupid question, but have you guys been watching the Olympics? I know right, Team GB is on fire! After the amazing home games in London four years ago, I really wasn’t expecting Rio 2016 to come anywhere close in terms of the buzz that we saw in 2012. But with all these medals that the team is racking up, the sense of pride that we are feeling as a nation is palpable. Our athletes are really proving their worth, aren’t they? Apparently, these are the most successful games that Team GB has ever had on foreign soil. These amazing sportsmen and women are just so impressive and the sheer grit and determination that they show knows no bounds. They pour their blood, sweat and tears into their punishing training regimes and give their all to their sports, sacrificing so much for a place on the podium. I can’t even begin to comprehend what they put themselves through. I’m more of a sofa sports spectator shall we say, preferring to cosy up at home and cheer on those who have what it takes. But “What do the Olympics have to do with interiors?”, I hear you ask. Well, let me tell you.

Loaf’s Mid-Season Collection of Squishy Delights

Loaf - Atticus sofa

I’ve been dreaming of a new sofa for what seems like years now. I loved mine when we first bought it. It was a gorgeous, pouffy three-seater with really deep seats. The material was practical and hard-wearing as was the deep brown colour. But as the years of use and abuse have taken their toll the pouffy sofa has become less squishy and more squished! It still looks good and is in pretty good condition but I so badly want a new one. I have spent hours admiring and coveting sofas online but I always keep coming back to Loaf. The British brand has such a wonderful selection of cosy and classy furniture that a brief look around their website really does get me dreaming about the kind of sofa I could have. But it wasn’t until Loaf launched their mid-season collection in May that I found THE ONE! I’m terribly picky when it comes to sofas so it’s not easy to please me. But I think I’ve found what I’ve been looking for in the magnificent Atticus sofa from Loaf. You can see it in the image above! Just look at how deep those seat cushions are, I could just sink right into them and drift off to sleep. It looks so cosy right? And I love that soft pink putty colour too although it totally wouldn’t go with my living room decor.  Read More…
