If you’ve been doing any research into the interior trends you can expect to see in 2017 you might have come across quite a few predictions that Terrazzo is going to make a big impact on the scene this year. Over the past few months, I’ve read plenty of blogs and articles all stating the same thing. The trade shows and design shows seem to confirm this and new products are popping up all the time. The latest to come onto my radar is this colourful collection of Terrazzo wall murals from Murals Wallpaper.
Terrazzo has been around for centuries and was created by Venetian construction workers as a low cost flooring material to surface the patios around their living quarters. The material originally consisted of scrap marble chips set in clay and sealed with goat milk. These days though it’s generally made from chips of marble or granite set in concrete which is then polished to give a smooth surface. As a material it is extremely durable and hardwearing, a factor which contributed to it’s popularity throughout history.
The recent resurgence that Terrazzo has seen though has a more minimal, abstract and interesting vibe. It’s being reworked in the trendiest of homes, not only as flooring but also in furniture design and interior accessories. And as you can see here, even as wallcoverings.
Murals Wallpaper has taken inspiration from this classic material and given it a modern makeover. The reimagined Terrazzo designs utilise modern digital printing techniques and capture the highly textured effects in HD. The Terrazzo wall murals can then be hung just like normal wallpaper.
The collection comes in a variety of striking colour palettes with some of the designs being more subtle. My personal favourite has to be the Blue Marble mural though, that’s the one in the first and last image. I love the way the pattern is so large and you can see all the fine details which gives a really textured feel.
What about you guys? Do you have a favourite Terrazzo wall mural? And what do you think about the trend for Terrazzo in interiors? Will you be indulging?
