I have been meaning to start writing more about design hotels on the blog for so long now, mostly just as a way to document places I’d like to stay so I don’t forget about them. Of course, given the option when travelling I’d rather stay in a design hotel that speaks to the aesthete in me. A hotel experience should be something special in my eyes and for me that means staying somewhere I consider to be aspirational. Admittedly I don’t really get the opportunity to travel that much since the kids came along but as they become more independent I’m hoping that the husband and I will be able to jet off a few mini city breaks (and boy do I need a break!). So today, I want to introduce you to the beautiful new Hôtel du Ministère Apartment in Paris.
Situated in the heart of the 8th arrondissement, the Hôtel du Ministère is in the Faubourg Saint-Honoré quarter and close to the Champs-Elysées. It has 42 rooms and suites, including two that are especially equipped for disabled visitors. But the pièce de résistance has to be the “Open Sky” deluxe executive penthouse apartment that you can see here. Designed by François Champsaur, the expansive 100m square loft space is absolutely stunning. Flanked on one side by a wall of floor to ceiling black steel framed windows, the apartment offers views of the city skyline and rooftops.
The living area features beautiful raw oak floor boards and walnut furniture including a number of design icons. There is also a cosy fireplace and a big comfy sofa perfect for relaxing once you’ve returned from exploring the nearby luxury retail hotspots. But nothing beats those windows and the big industrial ceiling beams. There is also a state of the art black kitchen and a dining area that can seat six people. The two en-suite bedrooms are less subdued than the rest of the apartment and this is where you can see the Mondrian influence creeping in from the rest of the hotel, with brighter pops of colour and more graphic design elements. And there is even a laundry room.
This is definitely somewhere I would love to stay when I next visit Paris…if only I could afford it! What about you? Tempted?

Oh gosh, such a beautiful place. Similar to you, I rarely stay in a hotel since having the children, but when I do, I want it to be somewhere incredible. I’d rather do two nights somewhere amazing than a week somewhere average.
