Interview : Textile Designer Niki Jones

Contemporary Scandinavian bedroom with dark walls and geometric grey bedding by designer Niki JonesHi everyone! How are you all today? I hope you’ve enjoyed the long Bank Holiday weekend if you live in the UK. Traditionally, this is a time when lots of us take part in DIY and try to get our homes ready for the greatly anticipated summer season. I’m happy to say that I actually haven’t been doing any DIY at all this weekend. That’s because my kitchen makeover, which has been in progress for a year, is finally finished. I can’t tell you what a relief that is. So this weekend we have been mostly enjoying our new space. I will be sharing a progress post with you guys shortly and then the final reveal will follow once I’ve had the time (and good light) to photograph it. So that’s all very exciting!

Something else exciting however, is that I am hosting a fantastic giveaway today, which I am sure you’ll love. A few weeks ago, I received an email from Niki Jones, a fantastic designer who wanted to introduce me to her work. I have no idea how I hadn’t come across her before if I’m honest and that’s why I really love it when people reach out to me. Once I had checked out Niki’s website, I knew she would be a perfect candidate to feature on The Design Sheppard so I immediately responded and asked if I could interview her so I could give you guys a more in-depth insight into her work. Luckily, she agreed to make time for us. So here it is: Read More…

Embracing Hygge with the Eve Duvet

Eve Duvet and bedding Days of Hygge

It’s really quite unbelievable but I haven’t actually written a blog post about ‘Hygge‘ yet. Surely, I must be the only blogger who hasn’t? Hygge has been such a massive trend this winter, it’s been everywhere. For those of you who don’t know what the Danish concept of hygge (pronounced Hoo-gah) is, it basically describes a feeling or mood that comes from taking genuine pleasure in making ordinary, every day moments more meaningful, beautiful or special. (There is a really good explanation of hygge over on Hyggehouse). There is no direct translation of the word in English, but in essence it can be described as a kind of cosiness that you feel when you are able to take pleasure from the presence of gentle, soothing things and when you can be free from anything that is deemed to be annoying or emotionally overwhelming. Hygge is taking time to enjoy your hot cup of tea with your feet up. Hygge is snuggling up with your loved ones by candle light. Hygge is sharing your favourite meal with friends. Hyyge is basically anything that makes you feel happy, cosy, contented, warm, safe and comforted. It sounds lovely doesn’t it? But I think it’s quite a personal thing. What makes one person feel hyggelig might not work for another. So today I want to talk about my idea of hygge and what hygge means to me. Read More…

Magical Children’s Bedding from Forivor

FORIVOR Magical Childrens Bedding

I have to tell you something a little embarrassing. Since becoming a mother, I cry really easily. I can’t watch Comic Relief or Children in Need or any kind of programmes like that anymore. Sometimes even adverts or stories on the news make me cry. It’s terrible. But why am I telling you this? Well this product I am sharing with you today also made me cry, no joke. I received an email from the makers and just reading about it had me in tears, before I’d even seen it no less!! I know, I know, I can hear you all now “Get a grip woman”, but it must be the hormones or something. I never used to cry this much. Anyway, I’d best tell you all about this special tear-jerking product, hadn’t I? It’s the most beautiful, magical, storytelling bedding for children. Just look at it! It is created by Alice Ross and Rebecca Attwood of luxury children’s bedding brand Forivor with the aim of nurturing a generation of imaginative storytellers who are invested in the future of the planet. Bloomingville Mini Collection AW15

Bloomingville Mini Range 2015 children's bedroom

Well, with less than five weeks to go until our new baby arrives (unless s/he comes late of course) I’m already thinking of how we will update the nursery. Two years ago, when Matylda was born, I opted for a woodland animals theme but at the time it was quite difficult to source lovely products to go in the room. Now, this is not so much the case as there are lots of lovely woodland-inspired products on the market. One of the nicest ranges I have come across so far is the Bloomingville Mini Collection AW15. The collection includes some beautiful toys, tableware, textiles and decorative accessories all in a neutral colour palette accented with subtle pastel shades. The illustrations that run through the range are just adorable and would work in boy’s or a girls room. I’ll leave you with some beautiful images of how great a child’s room could look and a few images of some of my favourite pieces from the collection. As always let me know what you think! Read More…

Polefit Bedding : A New Way to Dress Your Bed

Polefit Bed Sheets

Do you absolutely hate changing the sheets on the bed? Do you despise the battle with the mattress as you try to get the fitted sheet, or worse the flat sheet, snugly fitted whilst trying to ensure the sheet remains as taut as possible? I do, and I inevitably fail at doing all of those things. After tucking the first two corners of the fitted sheet onto the bottom of the bed I usually end up crawling to the head of the bed where I attempt to lift the mattress, which is now supporting my body weight. As I sit here and type this I realise what a stupid tactic that is and I feel rather foolish. But that’s neither here nor there. All we need to know at this point is that when I make the bed, the sheet is not fitted snugly and after a few hours in a fresh bed it goes all baggy and loose and if I’m really unlucky one corner might dislodge itself altogether. And I can’t stand that! If only there was a stylish, well-designed solution that could be fitted easily and could help the sheet retain its super smooth quality from night to night. Well guess what guys! Ruth and I have found one! Read More…

Luxurious Linen Bedding from LinenMe

LinenMe Bedding Blue Silver

I have to be honest here, bedding has never been something that I have invested heavily in. This is stupid I know, as we spend such a large part of our lives in bed. Surely then it’s common sense that a good quality bed and great bedding should be right up there on our priority list? Well this is something that I’m hoping to change as soon as I can afford to get some proper, good quality, grown up bedding. So when I saw this divine linen bedding from LinenMe, it went straight on my Lust ListRead More…
