KIP : London’s Affordable Design Hotel

Kip Affordable Design Hotel London - Reception

In this post I want to share another exciting design find that I discovered thanks to Curate & Display on Twitter. This time it’s an affordable design hotel in London. What? I hear you ask. Affordable and London in the same sentence? But yes, it’s really true. I have found a great looking design hotel in London that doesn’t break the bank. When looking for a hotel to stay the night in, design is always a very important factor in my decisions. If I’m going to stay away from home I don’t want to stay in a bog standard room that could be anywhere. I don’t want a typical hotel. I want somewhere that has personality, somewhere that is well thought out and somewhere that speaks to the design geek in me. But at the same time I’m not made of money, so I also need somewhere that won’t cost an arm and a leg. It took a lot of searching, but I’ve finally found it. Welcome to Kip, an affordable design hotel in London. Read More…

Dualit Architect Panel Pack by Charlene Mullen

Dualit Architect Kettle Toaster featuring Charlene Mullen panels

You may remember a few weeks ago when I posted a lust list of designer kitchen items that Ruth and I have been coveting for a while now. On that list was the Dualit Architect Toaster and Kettle featuring a specially designed panel pack by Bluebellgray. I think the Architect range is just so clever and I really love the flexibility and customisation options that it offers. Once you have bought the kettle and toaster you can invest in a range of interchangeable colour panels, so if you decide to update your kitchen or just fancy a change, your toaster and kettle can change with you. Genius right? Although I think if I owned it I would get a little bit obsessed with buying panel packs. I loved the Bluebellgray one and now I have fallen for the Dualit Architect Panel Pack by Charlene Mullen. Read More…

Arthouse Wallpaper by Linwood

Mind the Gap Wallpaper by Linwood

Mind the Gap

Another Wednesday, another wallpaper. And this week it is a range by Linwood Fabrics & Wallpaper. I happened on this range on Pinterest I think when I spotted the Mind the Gap paper above. I fell in love immediately and had to check out the rest of the range. I also love the Penaholic paper below.  The whole Arthouse range is eccentric and playful drawing inspiration from an eclectic range of sources: from forest walks to cityscapes, from bold fonts to English tea. Perfect for a mid-week pick me up, don’t you agree?

HOME: The trade event for homewares & interior accessories

exclusive-brands exhibiting at HOME event in London

The HOME event will see a number of exclusive brands launching their new collections

Today sees the launch of HOME, a new retail trade show taking place in London alongside the successful giftware event Top Drawer. Taking place at Earl’s Court from the 15th to the 17th January, HOME features an inspiring selection of stylish, high-quality interior accessories, lighting and occasional furniture, from hundreds of the best design companies in the UK and Europe.

Exhibitors include the likes of Alessi , Coach House, LSA International, 95%, Design House Stockholm, Authentics, Koziol, black+blum, Content by Conran, Greengate, Serax and Eva Solo to name but a few.

The event is headed up by Ian Rudge, the co-founder of 100% Design and Tent London, so it promises to be a refreshing, exciting environment in which to do business. Ian has already identified a number of key buying themes that we can expect to see in 2012 including British Heritage and the Stoke Renaissance.

For those who are going to the event in the next few days there are some great products on show that are not to be missed. I’m going to do a little round-up here so you know what to expect from. And for those of us who are unable to attend, here’s a little taster of what we’re missing. (Living in Devon does have its disadvantages, especially when it comes to the fact that the most exciting trade shows usually take place in London!)

Authentics have teamed up with young designer Harry Allnatt and they are launching Hitch Lamp and CAF Chair. Hitch is a cute table lamp that encourages user interaction. With rubber plug joints, it is easy to take apart as it is to put together, allowing the user to wax and care for the wooden parts, promoting a strong relationship between the lamp and the user.

CAF is a lightweight, stackable steel chair which embraces the utilitarian aspects of nostalgic school furniture and translates this language in its new context. By taking the endearing elements of the old school chair and reducing it to its most minimal form, the outcome is humble by nature. The subtly formed plywood seat ensures a sustained level of comfort while the backrest envelopes the body.

Lizzie Allen has her own printing studio in which she produces hand-printed wallpapers. Her unique style incorporates novelty and humour and she finds her inspiration from travelling and the different places she has lived in. She also draw her experiences of other cultures and traditions.

This wallpaper is ideal for feature walls or individual panels. The London collection features many whimsical designs in vibrant colours and depicts typical scenes from the streets of London. From the changing of the guard to scenes outside St Pauls Cathedral and red buses and black cabs.
