Cushions Imitating Hard Materials by How Are You

Plywood Cushion by How Are You

How Are You is a Swedish design firm run by Emelie & Tobias. They created these great cushions as part of their Making Hard Things Soft range, which is printed and handmade in Sweden.

I asked Tobias to give me a bit of background to the company and this is what he said: “We are a couple in design and life. We both have creative day jobs, I work as a digital art director and Emelie is a freelance pattern constructor for brands such as Acne, J Lindeberg, and Filippa K. After almost 10 years and an uncountable amount of ideas that never got done we finally decided to realize them one by one under the name HOW ARE YOU. Everything we do we strive to produce ourselves in Sweden and in small editions.”

Their philosophy is a simple one as Tobias explains: “We do this for fun and we only do things we like and hopefully you like it too. The idea behind MAKING HARD THINGS SOFT was to print hard material such as plywood, osb and concrete on pillow and thus make hard materials soft. We always loved rough materials but couldn’t really find an easy way to bring them into our home until we came up with the pillow idea.”

I think these are great, really playful! What do you think?
