As you probably know, my little family lives in a small two bedroom flat. It’s adequate for our needs at the moment but I often wish we had more storage space in the flat, especially for all the kids’ toys. Ideally I’d like an extra room we could use as a playroom so that we could revert our lounge back to a cosy, tidy, adult space. That’s impossible though as we can’t just magic up another room out of thin air. So I’ve realised that the next best thing is to try to use the space that we do have more sensibly. Things like incorporating more multipurpose furniture and using every inch of available space. So I was very impressed when I came across German company Noook one day on Twitter. Noook has developed a unique range of functional and space-saving furniture for small apartments and unused corners and spaces.
Unused corners and neglected spaces are converted into effective and efficient storage spaces or work areas. Every piece of furniture is multi-functional and can be arranged in various configurations to best meet the needs of the user. No space is wasted by these innovative pieces, which are not only practical, but also look the part too. Designed by Berlin-based architect Michael Hilgers, Noook’s products are suitable for the hall, bathroom, bedroom, living room or as (home) office furniture.
The product range includes corner desks, corner tables, shelves as room dividers or as shelving units, and modular corner shelving systems. The products are all designed and manufactured in Germany and come with the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) seal which guarantees that all the wood used to create their products comes from sustainably managed forests.
We think outside the box – around the corner and for the corner
I particularly like these little stacking boxes (seen below and in the first image). They are so flexible and can be used in so many ways. Stack them up to create a tall storage unit and make the most of the height in the room, or alternatively stack them side by side to make a little storage bench. Move them around to use them as little side tables or create your own storage coffee table. Such a great idea.
What do you guys think of these products from Noook? Could you do with something like this in your small space?
