Thread Furniture by Berlin-Based Coordination

To be perfectly honest I can’t quite recall where I first came across these wonderfully crafted pieces of furniture by Berlin-based design studio Coordination, but what I do know is that I fell in love with them almost immediately. There are three separate collections that really caught my eye due to the simple design, great use of materials and the bold use of bright colours. I also love the fact that these furniture pieces can be used by both adults and kids alike and are therefore timeless pieces that can remain in the family for generations.

Thread Family is a set of small height-adjustable furniture featuring a thread and seat lathed from walnut wood on a colourful welded steel base. The family consists of three members: Small Stool, Bistro Table & High Stool. The lathed upper part consists of a 40 mm thread cut from american walnut, which is connected to the seat by a visible and well-crafted wedge-joint in a cross shape. The surface is finished with hardwood oil to enhance the natural look and to lubricate the thread for a smooth motion whilst adjusting the seat height. The steel base is welded from precision stainless steel tubes, inspired by high quality bicycle frames.

Thread Garderobe, with its perfect family friendly ergonomics, joined the Thread Family in 2013. The long walnut thread hosts a number of hangers or small palettes that can be used for storing keys, phones or wallets. Both the hangers and paddles are height adjustable by simply rotating them up or down the spindle depending on whether they are intended to be used by adults or kids.

Another new addition to the family in 2013 is the Thread Trestle. The three legged construction is again height adjustable by the use of a lathed and threaded leg and can therefore be adapted to the ergonomic needs of the user. The tubular steel base structure holds the threaded leg and provides solid support for the table top, which is available is sizes ranging from 80 cm x 150 cm to 110 cm x 220 cm are possible. The height can be set to anything between 68–76 cm.
