Garden Makeover Inspiration

Outdoor living space featuring a Giant Anglepoise light

So now that our kitchen makeover is complete, our next project is our garden makeover. My thoughts at the moment have become totally overtaken by the various options we have for creating an outdoor livingroom. I think this is a big trend right now. Not just creating a nice garden, but an outdoor livingroom. Previously we have seen people having a dining table and chairs outside and maybe a parasol. But lately we’ve been seeing lots more spaces where people are tending to mimic their indoor spaces outside. For example, we’re seeing lots of outdoor sofa sets, outdoor cushions, outdoor rugs, lots of soft and snuggly textiles like throws and sheep skins, solar powered outdoor lighting, and even whole outdoor kitchens or bars. Things are getting very sophisticated. You can see my outdoor living Pinterest board below. I’ve been busy gathering garden makeover inspiration.

I’ve recently read a brilliant series of blog posts that were part of the #UKHomeBlogHop organised by Kimberly Duran of Swoonworthy blog. There were 27 top UK interiors bloggers sharing their summer style and many of them focused on garden makeovers. I am totally inspired by the ways that these amazingly talented bloggers have totally transformed their spaces and I’ve been taking notes for my own makeover. If you’re looking for summer styling inspiration I strongly recommend you head on over to Kimberly’s blog where the bloghop starts. She links to all the other blogs that took part. Get your pinning finger ready!

Even though I have different challenges, there are many ideas I am able to take from their makeovers and will potentially be able to use in my own garden. Here are a few ideas that I’m really liking at the moment:

  1. Reed screening to disguise ugly walls or fences and to help add privacy or shade.
  2. Festoon lights, fairy lights, hanging lanterns
  3. Outdoor cushions and lots of them
  4. Outdoor rugs to help create zones in the garden
  5. Fancy planters, faux foliage
  6. Cosy textiles like throws and sheepskins
