As Olympic fever grips the nation and everyone around the country excitedly cheers on Team GB, I thought it would only be apt to dedicate Wallpaper Wednesday to our talented guys and gals representing our great nation at the London 2012 Olympic Games. I didn’t have to look far either as just as the thought entered my head I received an email introducing me to Wallpapered, a London-based company that has been created to provide a new and exciting medium through which talented up-and-coming designers are able to display and monetize their wallpaper mural designs.
What I really like about this company is the fact that Wallpapered is a commercial venture for designers, but it allows them to maintain full ownership of their work. Chosen designers are given their own page on the platform to exhibit their work and on it they are able to sign in to their shop interface, add a logo, add and edit a biography, add links to their own website and social media networks, view all their orders and set their own prices. Wallpapered simply takes a commission on each order for printing and distributing it to the customer.
The driving force behind this exciting new concept is Robert Hoare, a direct descendent of the nineteenth century architect of the Midland Grand Hotel, St Pancras and the Albert Memorial, George Gilbert Scott. Robert says: “We set up wallpapered.com to enable up-and-coming designers to monetize their designs, but still retain the full rights of their work. Each designer earns a commission each time his or her design is printed.”
Whilst I was scouting around on the website I found a whole host of wall murals and wallpaper inspired by London and the 2012 Olympics. I thought I would share them with you guys today as we cheer on Team GB in their attempts to bring home the medals.
