Today’s post is part of a style challenge that I have agreed to take part in. I was approached by the luxury brand Juliette’s Interiors who wereย inviting a select few of their favourite luxury lifestyle bloggers to take part in a luxury bedroom design challenge. They were working in collaboration with Hypnos,ย a British family-run bed making company andย winners of this year’s National Bed Federation Bed Manufacturer of the Year Award. The bedroom design challenge required me to come up with a luxury bedroom design centred around one of Juliette’s Interior’s luxury beds and a hypnos mattress. I was free to use these products as my inspiration to come up with a design for a beautifully luxurious bedroom that will help provide a good night’s sleep.ย

So above you will see the bed that I have chosen. I wanted to go for something more minimal but that still makes a great design statement. Thisย contemporary Italian bed has a large luxury leather headboard that looks more like an entire wall of upholstered panels. I particularly liked theย goldย steel profiles that lend this headboard a real bit of bling, but in a more understated manner. So I have chosen to use this as the centrepiece of my design along with theย Hypnos Royal Comfort Eminence Mattress.

I chose this mattress, not only because it is top of the range, to go on that gorgeous luxury bed, but also because of the materials it is made from. Itย features latex, lambswool and hand teased woolย wrapped around a unique hourglass shaped pocket spring system. I also like the fact that it comes with aย matching sumptuous luxury mattress topper featuring soft and breathable latex together with lambswool to regulate body temperature. Over the past few years, since have kids, I have become acutely aware of the importance of good quality sleep and i’m now firmly convinced that you should buy the best bed and mattress that you can afford. Considering how much of our lives we spend asleep, it makes sense that we have a really decent and supportive mattress.

For the room design itself, I took inspiration from the lifestyle shot featuring the bed, in particular for the colour scheme. The furniture and the soft furnishingsย that the bed has been styled with aren’t really my style so I wanted to choose some furniture and accessories that are a bit more suited to the Design Sheppard aesthetic.

Juliette's Interiors Luxury Bedroom design scheme inspired by Dulux Colour of the Year 2018 Heartwood

As a starting point, I settled on Heartwood, the Dulux Colour of the Year for 2018, as the paint colour for the walls. Thisย warm neutral, with a hint of heatherย sits between a smoky taupe and dusky mauve on the colour spectrum. Heartwood created a really cosy and calming atmosphere with a real sense of balance, making it perfect for a luxury bedroom sanctuary.

I wanted to add a bit of drama to the room as well so I opted for the elegant Lines wallpaper from Ferm Living in off white. Inspired by classic Art Deco, this wallpaper features delicate golden lines that create a beautifully subtle pattern. I thought this picked up on the gold steel profiles from the headboard of the bed and would look fantastic used on the wall opposite the statement headboard.

I wasn’t quite sure what kind of furniture to choose for the room, but I thought something with touches of gold would be appropriate. I then stumbled across the *Hedra range of furniture from Made.com* and these pieces couldn’t be more perfect.ย Created using an innovative laser-cut technique, the Hedra collection features striking geometric panels, which echo the geometric detail from the wallpaper. It also has brass drawer pulls and legs.

I wanted my luxury bedroom to have somewhere to relax other than the bed so I added a beautiful Earl Grey chaise longue in velvet stone from Love Your Home.ย This colour is the perfect compliment to Heartwood and you cannot deny the elegance of a chaise longue. Plus velvet is having a bit of a moment right now so I had to include some in my room design.

I then wanted to cosy up the room a little so I chose this beautiful throwย Lene Bjerre Kelis Throw in concrete from Sweetpea & Willow. This is a great match for the Plum Kitten washed linen bedding from LinenMe. I didn’t want my luxurious bedroom to feel too opulent or majestic so I thought that adding some linen bedding would give it a slightly imperfect and more lived-in look. I also added a really gorgeous mink sheepskin from Barker & Stonehouse.

When it came to lighting I chose the beautiful *Aurora Vita Eos Feather Pendant Shades In Light Brown from Graham & Green* along with the matching table lamp. These pieces are hand-covered in authentic goose feathers and add a really feminine and delicate touch to the room.

Next I chose some accessories to pick out the gold in the wallpaper and the headboard. I selected the quirky and contemporaryย Eichholtz Cheyenne mirror from Sweetpea & Willow. The geometric shape of it echoes the pattern on the furniture and the wallpaper so this was a good match.

I also chose some artwork from Sweetpea & Willow. The “Too Glam to give a Damn” picture is perfect for this glamorous room and the gold picture frame adds that extra bit of bling.

The Spun Metal Planter is from Westelm and I chose this as I thought it would be perfect for adding some greenery to the bedroom. I really love houseplants and I wrote an article recently about having plants in the bedroom so thisย brass-finished planter seemed to be a sleek, modern way to showcase some plants. You can always go faux if you have trouble keeping houseplants alive.

Finally I chose a little tealight holder from tealight holder from Jam Furniture’s candle collectionย to add a bit of Hygge to the bedroom with a cosy candlelit atmosphere.

So what do you guys think of my luxury bedroom design? I’m over the moon with it and going through this process has totally made me want to redo my own bedroom. If you want to check out some of the other products I was looking at when I put this design together you can check out the Pinterest board that I created. I always find that pinning everything I come across onto a virtual moodboards really helps me to narrow down my choices.
