Pantone Colour of the Year 2024 Peach Fuzz

The Pantone Colour of the Year 2024 was announced recently and this year marks the 25th anniversary of the Pantone Colour of the Year program. It was first introduced by the Pantone Colour Institute in 1999 and captures the global zeitgeist, serving as an expression of a mood and an attitude on the part of the consumer. Today it helps us to express the state of our global culture through the language of colour.

So in today’s post, we will be taking a deep look at The Pantone Colour of the Year 2024. I would like to dive into why Pantone chose this colour, what it is expressing and how you can use this shade in your home in 2024. I have to admit I was desperately hoping for deep dark green this year, as I have been every year since about 2013 but alas, it was not to be. Instead, we have Peach Fuzz which sounds like a cocktail from the 1980’s. So let’s get stuck in.

Why was Peach Fuzz Chosen as Pantone Colour of the Year 2024?

The Pantone Colour Institute describes Peach Fuzz as “a heartfelt peach hue bringing a feeling of kindness and tenderness, communicating a message of caring and sharing, community and collaboration.” Regardless of how you feel about this shade of peach, I think you will have to agree that its message is very much needed right now. Caring, sharing, community and collaboration feels like the antidote we need right now to so many of the problems that we are experiencing politically, economically and socially. So if this colour expresses those values, I am down with that!

Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Colour Institute, says: โ€œWith this yearโ€™s Pantone Colour of the Year 2024, we see an increased focus on community and people across the world reframing how they want to live and evaluating what is important โ€“ that being the comfort of being close to those we love. The colour is one whose warm and welcoming embrace conveys a message of compassion and whose cosy sensibility brings people together and enriches the soul.โ€

When I read the description of this colour it does feel like it perfectly expresses what I feel like we need in 2024. The past few years have been really tough. We have had to rethink, pivot, and reinvent continuously as we have had to face one crisis after another and it has been exhausting. We have realised what is most important for us and that is spending time with those who mean the most to us and looking after our health and wellbeing.

Pantone says that Peach Fuzz is a warm and cosy shade highlighting our desire for togetherness with others or for enjoying a moment of stillness and the feeling of sanctuary this creates. Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director, Pantone Colour Institute says that this colour, which is nestled between pink and orange, “brings belonging, inspires recalibration, and an opportunity for nurturing, conjuring up an air of calm, offering us a space to be, feel, and heal and to flourish from whether spending time with others or taking the time to enjoy a moment by ourselves.”

Pantone describes Peach Fuzz as a sensitive, sweet and airy hue that awakens our senses to the comforting presence of tactility and cocooned warmth. I think that first image above definitely expresses this. This poetic and romantic hue has a vintage feel to it and can be used in numerous ways in the home. So let’s take a look at some of the ways you can incorporate this subtly sensual velvety peach into our interiors.

There are numerous options when it comes to using Peach Fuzz on the walls. You could colour-drench a room in peach, use it in conjunction with other shades of peach or contrasting colours or create an accent wall. You could use paint on the walls, tile the walls with peach tiles, or use a beautifully patterned peach wallpaper. No matter what you choose to do, this colour is a great choice for living rooms, bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchens.

We can use peach in many ways in the bathroom and is actually a really great colour choice for this particular room due to its calming properties. Peach promotes feelings of warmth and joy so it is great in a room that we for restoration and rejuvenation. Bathrooms can be cold and sterile but by adding a touch of this gorgeous colour which can also act as a neutral you immediately bring a sense of warmth to the room. Plus if you choose tiles like the ones shown here you can also bring that comforting tactility to the bathroom that Pantone talks about.

Whilst peach looks great in the bathroom it can also make quite a statement in the kitchen. One of the main psychological properties of peach is that it feels simultaneously lively and calming which makes it perfect for the kitchen. This colour puts people at ease whilst also stimulating conversations so of course it would work well in the heart of the home.

We tend to gather in the kitchen to cook and eat and also to catch up with our family members while we do so. So having a kitchen in a colour that is associated with communication is probably a pretty good move.

If you don’t fancy going all out with peach cabinetry you could play it safer and opt for a peach kitchen island or go even safer still by just having a few accents in your appliances, maybe a peach backsplash, or peach wall coverings or flooring.
