As many of you will know, I have been counting down the weeks to BlogtourNYC for some time now. But the wait is finally over and I am now in New York with a fabulous group of  interiors and design bloggers.

It is because of those companies that are sponsoring BlogTourNYC that this trip is possible and I have been really looking forward to learning more about those companies this week. Most of them I was already aware of and there are a few that are new to me and it is thanks to BlogTourNYC that I have become acquainted with these great companies.

In the meantime though I took the opportunity to do a bit of research of my own and luckily the sponsors were more than happy to answer the questions I put to them. For this blog post I spoke to Janine Flamer, Vice President, Marketing & Public Relations , Poggenpohl US and Ted Chappell, President of Poggenpohl US.

Can you please tell us a little bit about the company?

JF. Poggenpohl is the world’s leading luxury kitchen cabinet brand with 35 kitchen design showrooms across the United States. Poggenpohl presents the latest trends in European kitchen design in contemporary and classic styles, including  ergonomically designed kitchens and creative solutions for maximizing space. Poggenpohl offers over 70 cabinet fronts in a variety of finishes, such as: wood veneers, laminates, lacquers, acrylics, glass, metals and custom RAL colors. Established in 1892, Poggenpohl manufactures custom-made cabinetry in its factory in Herford, Germany.

What is it that sets you apart from your competitors?

JF.  There is something to be said for being the world’s oldest cabinetry company. Dedication to design, service, quality and innovation are a few of the reasons why Poggenpohl, founded in 1892, has remained a leader in the cabinetry industry for over a century. With a European sensibility, Poggenpohl cabinetry blends seamlessly into modern and traditional interiors and offers a unique aesthetic with functional design solutions.

However, there are five elements in particular that set us apart from our competitors:

FUNCTIONALITY
Impressive on the inside and out, Poggenpohl is as much about function, flexibility and accessibility as it is impeccable design. Our new drawers and pull-outs are crafted from the finest materials and the pull-outs come with indirect LED lighting that is automatically activated when the pull-out is opened. Functional accessories, such as spice shakers and porcelain or aluminum jars allow for flawless organization and complement the light-maple or walnut wood inserts.

CUSTOMIZATION
Our signature functional accessories and 70 finishes, ranging from exotic woods to high-gloss lacquers, affordable European laminates, glass, aluminum and classic raised panel doors, allow for the integration of concepts to meet each customer’s individual needs and taste. The level of customization available allows for flowing transitions from living and cooking areas.

UNIQUE AESTHETIC
Poggenpohl has the competitive edge when it comes to the highest quality and widest selection of product finishes in high-end European kitchen design, and we pride ourselves in being at the forefront of the industry with trend-setting concepts. The minimalist lines and modern sensibility set us apart from the many traditional cabinet makers offered in the U.S. and a new generation of homeowners is beginning to embrace this more transitional approach to design.

DEDICATION TO INNOVATION
Since our inception over one hundred years ago, Poggenpohl has remained dedicated to functionality, sustainability and the highest standards for design. Collaborations with design experts Jorge Pensi and Hadi Teherani are evidence of our dedication to remaining a design leader in the industry. An example of our commitment to innovation is the newest collection, +Artesio. The collection unifies furniture design and architecture, fusing wall, floor and ceiling while integrating ventilation, furniture design, lighting and sound. Sustainability, a key principle of the Poggenpohl philosophy, places importance on both the responsible use of resources and energy and the extended service life of our products.

AFFORDABILITY
The Poggenpohl line is versatile and adaptable, suitable for small spaces and budget conscious homeowners as well as large homes with more considerable budgets. With eight price groups for complete kitchen designs, each can be tailored to meet your needs and lifestyle.

Can you tell us about your most popular range?

JF. Poggenpohl’s most popular design concept is the +Segmento kitchen whose signature recessed vertical and horizontal channels replace traditional handles for a contemporary style statement. An all-around spacer trim with integrated handle recess makes it easy to open the base cabinets from above and eliminates the need for handles. It’s described as a minimalist principle that underlines the pure form and beauty of the cabinet fronts. The latest update in the +Segmento line is that the channels are now available in all the cabinetry colors and finishes, whereas before the standard channels were aluminum.

Poggenpohl’s eco-friendly textured teak melamine cabinetry is the most popular door style and is available in 3 colors, original teak, light grey teak quartz and dark grey teak lava. Poggenpohl is the leader in eco-conscious design, including the use of high-quality water based lacquers and exotic wood alternatives.

What is your most recent product to hit the market and how was it received?

TC. The glass cabinet fronts and LED lighting in the latest +Artesio kitchen received tremendous response from the architecture and design community. Many of the new technologies introduced in the +Artesio line were the locomotive for the main product line. The glass cabinets, LED lighting and new interior drawer inserts and accessories can be used throughout our entire product line. The functional arch creates a room within a room and is a unique concept with endless creativity, and is just one design element that creates separation between Poggenpohl and our competition. Beyond residential kitchens, we are also exploring corporate pantries for several Fortune 500 companies. The trend in renovating corporate spaces is to create an open kitchen that is used as a meeting place for employees to network and share information. This is similar to the trend in residential design where the kitchen has become the focal point of the home. We can bring our same set of design skills, product functionality and technology, with the addition of high volume coffee systems, to this new untapped category of corporate pantries.

How did you get involved with BlogTour?

JF. Lori Dolnick of Frank Advertising recommended we participate. I connected with Veronika at Modenus.com and decided to kick off our sponsorship with an event in the Poggenpohl London studio in Waterloo last Fall.

What can we expect to see from you at the Architectural Digest Home Show in NYC?

JF. While we are not exhibiting at the AD Show, we are making new product and partnership announcements at BlogTour.

What are you hoping to achieve by sponsoring BlogTourNYC?

JF. We want to increase Poggenpohl’s brand awareness and expand our exposure in blogs and social media. We want to engage consumers with unique content, so this is an important first step in that direction.

Can you tell us something that not many people would know about the company?

JF. company was founded in 1892 by Friedemir Poggenpohl and is celebrating 120 years of being at the forefront of creating luxury kitchens. The product line is available globally in 70 countries. Poggenpohl is a member of the billion dollar Nobia Group, Europe’s leading kitchen interiors Company with more than 20 top brands within manufacturing and retailing.
