I love it when designers reach out to me to suggest that their latest products or collections could be a good fit for The Design Sheppard. When I was contacted by Russian designer Sasha Tugolukova about her Mask Collection of collectable illustrated plates I just knew that you guys would appreciate them as much as I do. Now based in East London, Sasha started her creative journey as a child learning the traditional drawing technique of khokhloma, the name of a Russian wood painting handicraft style and national ornament. Her love of fine design and high quality product has led her to create a collection of unique and collectable pieces that are crafted and hand decorated to the highest standard by the artisans in Stoke-on-Trent in the North of England.
Sasha says: “The ‘Mask’ collection was inspired by the complexity and ambiguity of the natural world and seeks to challenge our perception of beauty. All designs emerge from a creative exploration through pencil illustration where individually drawn florals are composed into a multi-faceted ‘Mask’”.
The collection was initially designed as a set of three but it continues to evolve making it a lasting piece of art to collect and treasure. Sasha has recently started producing limited edition gilded plates, in the same design, which are available at Present London, on Shoreditch High Street, and they will soon also be available from her website. She tells me that new designs and products will also be added to the collection this autumn so do keep an eye out for those.
